In development for more than a year, Enkompass is built to run on Microsoft Windows Server® 2008 R2 and represents the latest additon to cPanel's growing suite of web hosting control panels and automation solutions, which have previously focused exclusively on Linux - and FreeBSD - based servers.
"We've been working with several windows hosting platforms and selected Enkompass as our primary shared windows platform after several months of testing," said Kelly Karnetsky of Springs Hosting. On April 4, 2011, Springs Hosting launched the new Xen-based Virtual Private Server (VPS) systems. Pre-existing customer VPS systems have been migrated to the new VPS systems that support both Linux and Windows. All VPS systems are monitored 24/7 and automatically backed up daily. Each VPS server is completely isolated from other servers. Unlike other virtual server systems like openvz that share the same kernel, Xen gives each virtual server its own Linux kernel that has been modified to run on the hosts hypervisor giving customers acces to kernel modules. A crash or a lockup on one virtual server has no impact on other virtual servers running on the same physical hardware. This approach leads to a highly configurable virtual server.
"The new VPS systems include many features that we did not have previously with our previous VPS infrastructure including mobile access via your iPhone and Andriod to control your virtual server.", said CIO Jeremy Keefe. "The Xen-based systems include capabilities for both Paravirtualization (PV) and Hardware-assisted virtualization (HVM). The machines are running with fixed usage limits, below full capacity on dual 6-core Dell PowerEdge servers running Xen virtulization instances. We have built a very flexible infrastructure with both 64-bit and 32-bit Linux and Windows images available giving our customers complete root / administrator control over their virtual machine. If our customer does not have a systems administrator to maintain their VPS, we also provide one to them as an optional service giving our customers all the tools needed to run their applications successfully." |

Network Infrastructure Expanded |
| On March 30, 2011, Springs Hosting completed installation of two new redundant core routers to increase the internet traffic cababilities beyond 10GigE. The new routers utilize BGP4 for the multi-homed Springs Hosting data center to maintain redundant failover connections between Tier 1 carriers including Level3 Communications and Qwest Communications. In addition, Springs Hosting has recently installed three (N+1) APC systems coming online in March 2011 adding to the existing infrastructure to support the growing data center.
"We are continuously improving the fault tolerance within our network to maintain up to 100% network uptime.", said David Rogers. "To date, we have multiple redundant; routers, switches, power feeds, cooling, monitoring equipment and internet carriers providing a fault tolerant network that our customers depend on to operate their businesses. Expanding the network is a process that takes planning and foresight. Our objectives have always been to anticipate the needs of our customers and exceed them. By forecasting these objectives, we are able to preestablish network requirements and transparently recover from software and hardware failures to avoid interruptions in services that we provide our customers." |

New Virtual Private Servers (VPS) |
| On April 27, 2010, Springs Hosting officially opened their Virtual Private Servers (VPS) cloud to the public. Also referred to as Virtual Dedicated Servers (VDS), these servers give customers complete control over their own server. Each VPS is insulated from the physical hardware making it possible to move a VPS container between physical machines with no downtime. Each VPS behaves exactly like a dedicated server, allowing the full security scheme to be utilized with absolutely no common link between data and the separated containers.
"We are continually expanding our services to provide our customers with the services that they require to run their businesses efficiently and we are no stranger to virtualization," said the Jeremy Keefe CIO at Springs Hosting. "The VPS servers provide our customers with a cost-effective bridge between the shared hosting and the managed dedicated servers that we manage for our customers." |
